Aeolus Winds Wind Quintet
Aeolus Winds is a wind quintet comprised of undergraduate students at the Royal Northern College of Music, who first came together in September 2008. Since then, they have established themselves as a dynamic and dedicated ensemble, performing and competing around Manchester.
Kylie Yang; Flute
Kylie is from Warrington and she is studying with Laura Jellicoe at the RNCM. She went to Chetham’s School of Music for sixth form and has performed with the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra in various venues including the Bridgewater Hall, Windsor Castle, Selby Abbey and Chester Cathedral. Kylie is also in piano trio ‘Absloute Trio’ and plays frequently in other large ensembles and orchestras at the RNCM.
Helen Clinton; Oboe
Helen is currently studying with Melinda Maxwell at the RNCM, having previously been tutored by Rachael Clegg. She holds the position of principal oboe with the Halle Youth Orchestra and has performed at the Bridgewater Hall and many other major concert venues in the UK and Europe, in addition to regularly playing in a number of RNCM ensembles.
Oliver Waite; French Horn
From Wokingham, Berkshire, Oliver began the horn at age 11 with Peter Widgery. He became a member of the scholarship scheme at Berkshire Maestros and became principal horn in Berkshire Youth Orchestra. He was awarded a scholarship to RNCM and is now studying with Lindsey Stoker. Oliver is currently principal horn in The National Youth Wind Orchestra of GB. He has played in many major concert halls throughout England and Europe and has worked with many great conductors from all over the world.
Christopher James; Bassoon
Christopher is currently studying with Peter Wesley after being awarded a scolarship to study at the RNCM. Whilst playing with Aeolus Winds and other college orchestras he regularly freelances with ensembles outside of college. Also having performed in many of the UK’s leading concert halls with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Mark Elder.
Emily Farren; Clarinet
Emily is currently studying at the RNCM under Chris Swann and Antonio Salguero. Originally from Cheshire, she has been learning the clarinet for over 10 years, and has been involved in several chamber groups before coming to Manchester, performing in venues such as Chester Cathedral and the Birmingham Symphony Hall. She was also the principal clarinet in Cheshire Youth Orchestra, and has played with the BBC Philharmonic and the Manchester Camerata. Emily is also a member of the Phoenix clarinet quartet and plays regularly with large RNCM ensembles and orchestras, as well as St Cecilia and Mowbray orchestras based in Yorkshire.
